Washed by the water.

Washed by the water.

One year ago, my husband publicly declared his faith in Jesus. Can I get an AMEN?! This was a HUGE step for him. He didn’t grow up in the church. When we met (and married) he started going to church with me as a supportive spouse, but not necessarily a believer.

We attended church sporadically the first 2 1/2 of our marriage when we lived in Illinois. When we moved to Kansas after our girls were born, we got a little bit more consistent. I prayed over his salvation a lot. Almost every communion we took, I prayed God would lead my husband to a faith deep enough to convict him in water baptism. It took a lot of time. A lot of patience. A lot of me watching him walk out his own faith and trusting that God was slowly pulling him close.

Well, every summer our church does a lake baptism event. The date was announced one Sunday in June and he said, “Think I should get dunked?” That might sound a little nonchalant...but if you know my husband, that’s just his personality. It was his way of lightening a deep subject for him. A somewhat uncomfortable subject, to be honest. Not because he was embarrassed or unsure of his faith or beliefs, but because he felt inadequate.

So we called some family members, wrote the date on our calendars and on July 15th, 2018 we celebrated this man we love making the most important commitment of his life. I will never, ever forget watching our [then] 3-year-old daughter take it all in. What a powerful moment for her — to watch her daddy submit and commit his life to our God.

Much love,
